James Dewitt Robertson Jr., 85, of Kingston, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Roane Medical Center.
Born Dec. 10, 1925, in Falling Rock, W.Va., he was the son of James Dewitt Robertson Sr. and Helen Derose Rader. A sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1944-46, he came to Oak Ridge in 1946, where he met his wife of 62 years, Ann Rogers Robertson, to whom he was devoted until her death in 2009. He retired from Y-12 Plant, Oak Ridge, in 1985 after 40 years of service. He was proud part-owner of Lakeside Golf Course in Kingston, where he enjoyed many years of work, play and camaraderie. He was a longtime supporter and avid fan of the Kingston Yellow Jackets football team. He instilled in his children at an early age a strong sense of moral right and wrong and responsibility to help those in need. He will long be remembered for his indelible sense of humor and love for the community.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law and best friend, Martha McReynolds, Knoxville, and Kay and John Bryson, Kingston; granddaughter and spouse, Leslie Quimby Westmoreland and Scott Westmoreland, Nashville; and a great-grandson, Stone Westmoreland of Nashville.
The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, in Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, with funeral service following. Burial took place at Kingston Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Doug Westmoreland of Tupelo, Miss., officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
