Jackson "Jack" Duane
Stackpole, 82, of Kingston, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Jack was born January 17, 1928 in Alvy, West Virginia, to the late
Ottie B. and Maude Naomi Bell Stackpole.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airways and Air
Communications Service Radio Operator. Jack began his civilian career
with the Union Carbide Corporation in 1950. He also worked on the NASA
space program with the Boeing Company for twelve years. Jack then
returned to Oak Ridge to work for Martin Marietta at the K-25 and Y-12
plants from where he retired.
Loving the outdoors, Jack was an avid gardener and fisherman in his
free time and he enjoyed tending to the many species of birds that
would frequent his home. Being a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, Jack also enjoyed spending time with his family especially
during the holiday season.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lou Fern Dulaney Stackpole;
Son, John Stackpole of Knoxville; Daughter, Mary Ellen Howard and
husband Jim of Oak Ridge; Brother, Don Stackpole and wife Eva of Paden
City, West Virginia, and 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Howard and Brian
Stackpole and wife Melissa, all of Oak Ridge.
The family will receive friends on Monday June 21, 2010 from 6 -
8pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8pm with
Reverend Craig Hendrix officiating. Graveside services will be held on
Tuesday June 22, 2010 at 11am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Military
honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the Physicians and Nurses of the Oak
Ridge Methodist Medical Center ICU unit for the care and kindness of
our loved one.
