TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Word became flesh and lived among us,

and we have seen his glory.

To all who received him,

he gave power to become children of God.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

How priceless is your love, O God!

Your people take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

For with you is the well of life,

and in your light we see light.

Bless the Lord!

The Lord’s name be praised!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #142   All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!   Coronation

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Lord, you intend that we live fully, yet we are reluctant to open our hands to receive your abundance. We prefer to do things for ourselves, and to trust that we know what is best. Pursuing our own desires, we have turned from you and still we wonder why we feel empty? Forgive our sins. Fill us again. May your grace spill over into our lives, so that we may gratefully accept what you offer, and live thankfully in the manner of Jesus. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

Thanks be to God,
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

FIRST LESSON    I Corinthians 12:1-11

MOMENT WITH THE CHILDREN

ANTHEM

SECOND LESSON   John 2:1-11

SERMON   What’s Yours?   Rev. Bill Shenk

*HYMN #435   We All Are One in Mission

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

The early Christians recognized a diversity of abilities and functions as gifts of the Spirit. Some were tempted to use these gifts to serve their own needs and ambitions, to form elite groups who looked down on others. But the gifts were given for the common good, to build up the community in love and to equip it for its mission in the world. We are convinced that the Holy Spirit still calls people to various offices in the church and gives diverse gifts to believers. We are to use them to speak and embody plainly the gospel of Christ in the world. No gift is of value without love. Amen.

SHARING OF CONCERNS AND PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

OFFERING

*DOXOLOGY

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION

*HYMN #436   We Are Your People   Whitfield

*CHARGE AND BLESSING

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun   Hymn #423 vs. 1

Jesus shall reign where e’er the sun
Does its successive journeys run,
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

*POSTLUDE

*All who are able may stand.

A Week Of Grace
Below is an excerpt from the journal of Grace School in Kenya, which is on-line at www.graceministries-limuru.org/journal.html. Bethel provides financial and other assistance to the school, and a week’s portion of the journal is usually in our bulletin on the 1st Sunday of the month (the on-line version of this month’s entry has photos of the construction).

Contact Joe Coen or the Mission Outreach Committee for more information about Grace School.

Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 6:20 P.M. (Limuru time)

The last two weeks have been the busiest at Grace School. A lot of construction has taken place. We have completed construction of the three top classrooms. We have rooms to complete the requirement for the primary education. We have also put up a Kitchen/Dinning Hall which we will stop after doing the lintel. All this work has been done by funds from the foundation. Glory is to God for we shall have a Christmas stress free as regards classrooms.

Two of our staffs have been admitted in Hospital. Miriam and Jennifer for maternity are in hospital for maternity reasons. They are both going through difficult process. Miriam gave birth through operation and has to be in hospital for a few weeks since the child has an infection. Jennifer might undergo an operation too and we are praying that all will go well.

A Good Samaritan gave $1200 to be given to teachers as Christmas gift. This was done on Thursday 21st. This was a joyful surprise to teachers and there was a general mood of thankfulness some too deep that was expressed through tears. The Lord bless all of you for your prayers.

We are visiting our children at their homes especially the orphans. The ones we have visited are very needy materially. Majority of these children are going through the day with only one meal in the evening. They are wishing for the school to open for at School they take mid morning tea and Lunch. The School will open on 8th January 2007.

Our facilities can now accommodate more needy children if we get extra financial support from Friends, present as well as new partners.

The climate has been very good. There has been a lot of rain and sunshine which is conducive to crop growth. The gardens look wonderful. This is the season for Plums and they are plenty in the market. There are two fruits that grow in this area. Plums are ready in December and Pears in April. Vegetables are plenty.

We give thanks to God for the blessing we have received from him this year and thank you for your continued prayers and support.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

–Samuel
