Sunday Morning Worship Service
January 23, 2005
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP We Come To Worship Quartet
CALL TO WORSHIP
Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to hm, bless his name. For the Lord is good;
His steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
*HYMN # 285 God, You Spin the Whirling Planets Austrian Hymn
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Creator God, you promised through your prophets long ago, that all people in the world will come to praise you. Forgive us for being so limited in our attitudes and practices, when you are so generous in yours. Save us from the pride of race and culture that becomes arrogance; for using our values and achievements as things to be worshiped; for loyalty to our own kind that leads to looking down on those different from ourselves. Help us, we pray, to live as Jesus intended us to live, beyond the barriers that divide, in a new unity of all humankind. Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Hear the good news! This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. Believe this good news:
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
