TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Service For The Lord’s Day
Bethel Presbyterian Church
Forth Sunday after the Epiphany
January 28, 2007
11:00 a.m.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

This is the day the Lord has made,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

In you, O Lord, we take refuge.

Let us never be put to shame.

In your righteousness deliver us.

For you are our rock and our fortress.

Bless the Lord!

The Lord’s name be praised!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #265  Great God, We Sing That Mighty Hand   Wareham

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Gracious God, In Jesus Christ you have shown us a more excellent way, a way of love that is greater than all other ways. We confess that we have neglected love. We have failed to receive it, and we have failed to extend it. We tie it up with conditions. We make it conform to our terms. We cannot accept that it is boundless. Forgive our timid responses to your great gift. Open us to love’s possibilities, and expand our view of what love can accomplish, even in us. We pray in the name of the one who is love made flesh, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

Thanks be to God,

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

MINUTE FOR MISSION   Design & Development Update   Ken Dungan

SECOND LESSON   I Corinthians 13:1-13

SERMON   Danger!   Rev. Bill Shenk

*HYMN #302   I Danced in the Morning   Simple Gifts

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We believe there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus; for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to God’s purpose. We are convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

SHARING OF CONCERNS AND PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

OFFERING

*DOXOLOGY

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION

*HYMN #367   Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love   Chereponi
