TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

February 4 2007
11:00 a.m.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

What shall we return to the Lord for all the good things God has done for us?

We will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

We will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all our hearts.

Before all others we will sing your praise.

Because of your love and faithfulness,

We will bow down and praise your name.

Bless the Lord!

The Lord’s name be praised!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #138  Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!   Nicaea

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Merciful God, You call, but we seldom hear. You beckon, yet we turn away. Sin keeps us from responding to you, and so often we seem incapable of doing good. Forgive our lack of attention to things that matter. Focus us on your call to worship and service. Release us from all that prevents us from being the people you would have us be, so that we may choose the path that points in the way of Jesus Christ, whose love is stronger than death. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

*RESPONSE

Thanks be to God,

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

FIRST LESSON   Isaiah 6:1-8

ANTHEM

SECOND LESSON   Luke 5:1-11

SERMON   Batter Up!   Rev. Bill Shenk

DEDICATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

*DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION   Hymn #592

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

*HYMN #392   Take Thou Our Minds, Dear Lord   Hall

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE

GREAT THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Let us pray.

COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

*HYMN #507   I Come With Joy   Dove of Peace

For Christ the Lord has led us through the ages long!
In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
