Sunday Morning Worship Service
February 12, 2006
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
This is the day the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP
From different places, with different needs,
We gather as one people, joined in the Spirit of God.
Give us the words to say and the songs to sing that will glorify you, most holy God!
We gather to worship God. Let us praise God’s name.
*HYMN #455 All Creatures of Our God and King Lasst Uns Erfreuen
*CALL TO CONFESSION
When we are in bondage, God offers to set us free. When we are poor, God in Christ identifies with us and offers us riches money cannot buy. When we are lonely and discouraged, the Holy Spirit is our Comforter, pointing us beyond ourselves. Everyone who calls on God, our Creator and Parent, for help will be saved. Let us together seek the healing only God can provide.
*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN
Almighty God, you are the ground and source of our being. Why then do we seek our fulfillment elsewhere? Why do we pursue vain idols, which cannot help, and ignore the God whose power can do anything? Why do we hunger for love ourselves but starve others of our attention and affection? In our sin we distort your image within us and we dishonor your image in others. Lord, your touch alone can heal us, your grace alone can forgive us. For your glory, grant us this blessing, through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE
We have seen the Light. We have heard the call. We will dance in the Light with our God.
Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Amen.
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn #578
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe it is a matter of faith to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. We believe it is a matter of faith to recognize equally and love all members of God’s human family whatever their race or creed, origin or orientation, color or condition. We believe that God’s creation is good, beautiful, and sacred, and therefore to condemn any portion of it is to condemn a portion of God as well. We believe that Jesus Christ came to free us from oppression and opulence, from negativity and neglect, and from things that lead to despair and death. And we believe that the Holy Spirit is that power which moves within us and beyond us, giving us courage and stamina to not only face the truth, but to live it! Glory be to God, the one in three Creator, Savior, and Holy Power of love! Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Let There Be Peace on Earth
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!

As was communicated to members of the Bethel Community via a letter earlier this week, the Session approved the following motion regarding our building plans: “moved to accept concept B and to create a Development and Design Committee to work with the architect (Chris Malone). In charging the Development and Design Committee, be it understood the committee has the latitude to explore use of all or part of the rental property with approval of the session.” The Design and Development committee is being formed and we will move as quickly as possible to finalize building plans and cost.
