Sunday Morning Worship Service
February 18, 2007
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Transfiguration of Our Lord Sunday
February 18, 2007
11:00 a.m.
GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Rejoice! For our God breaks into our earthly reality in surprising ways!
As it was on the Mount of Transfiguration, so it is today!
As God made Jesus glisten with unearthly brightness, to the utter confusion of all who witnessed,
So may God enter our here-and-now in breathtaking, mind-boggling new ways, and may God find us ready!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
*HYMN #263 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise St. Denio
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN
God of infinite mercy, we confess that we usually close ourselves to the very possibility that You might break through into our everyday lives. We tune out surprises, the unexpected and especially the bewildering, and thus insulate ourselves from any special revelation from You. Forgive us, we pray. Open our hearts and minds to every manifestation that You choose to share with us; but let us not get stuck there. Instead, let us respond in ways that further Your kingdom. In the name of Jesus we pray . . .
. . . (a moment of silence and personal confession)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
How blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, who’s sin is covered. Let us shout with joy as we proclaim the Good News . . . Thanks be to God,
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Roane County United Way needs volunteers to assist individuals with simple income tax preparation. Some training is required and will be provided. Tax software is provided. The term of service would be January April 15.
The Roane County United Way has an opening for a full time position. There is an allowance of $9700/year. This would be ideal for someone who is retired and would like to earn a little extra income or for someone who is going back to school as there is an educational stipend awarded at the end of the term of service. Individuals need to possess good communication skills, computer skills, and able to work with minimal supervision. For more information, please see the printout located in the Narthex.
We would like to invite all of our Bethel family to a banquet next Sunday, February 25 after church in our Fellowship Hall to honor our cherished and talented organist, Mary Ann Hensley. Mary Ann will leave Bethel after more than 18 years of faithful service to take a job as organist and choir director at a church closer to her home in Lenoir City. For entertainment during the banquet, we are asking for people to prepare a song, poem, skit, dance, etc. to show Mary Ann how much we love her.
It’s time for the Loaves and Fishes Experience again! This year it will be held March 16 17 at Maryville College. Packets with registration forms are available on the counter in the Narthex or at www.presbyteryeasttn.org. The final deadline to get your registrations to the church office is next Sunday, February 25. Please write your checks to Bethel with Loaves & Fishes in the memo. The Red Cross in Roane County is trying to increase the number of volunteers so that in the event of a disaster, our community will be well prepared to respond and provide assistance for friends, family, and neighbors affected by fire, flood, or any other disasters. They can use anyone as long as they are willing! Some people might thrive on the rush of being called to a fire scene to give food, shelter, and clothing assistance, but others who are more comfortable with behind-the-scenes jobs or working in disaster preparedness education and teaching fire safety to kids in schools are just as important. They have opportunities for everyone, young and old alike. The congregation is invited to attend their meeting Monday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kingston Community Center. For more information, please call Katie at 584-2999.
