TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

PRELUDE   Were You There?   Boetje

PROCESSIONAL   Hosanna, Loud Hosanna   Hymn # 89

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

PRELUDE     Nocturne in E Minor   Chopin

CALL TO WORSHIP

Glory and Praise be to you, O God!
Hosanna in the highest!
We remember the daring courage of our Savior, Jesus Christ
who boldly entered into the jaws of hatred and death.
We would ask for a portion of His strong dedication to be in us,
that we might please you and thus accomplish your will for our lives!
Let us worship God!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN   Ride On, Ride On In Majesty   Hymn # 9

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Hold us close, patient God, for we know how hard this week can be. We see our own failures mirrored in the Passion story. We know we betray the trust given to us. We let our children down. We avoid the eyes of the homeless. We treat your creation with indifference and abuse. We deny your love by covering up our talents, hiding behind low self-esteem, looking to others to lead the way. We are frightened by the costliness of following you and fear that we will be found fleeing the scene or joining in with the accusing crowd.

Loving God, hold us close so we may move through the shadows, confront the darkness and rejoice in the surprising triumph of your stronger-that-death love. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON1 Tim. 1:15; 1 Peter 2:24

Hear the good news! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin, and alive to all that is good. I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

PRAYER OF INTERCESSION FOR PALM SUNDAY

Jesus, remember us when you come into your kingdom.
Hear our intercessions. For your church around the world,
We ask new life.
For all who carry out ministries in your church,
We ask grace and wisdom.
For people who have accepted leadership positions,
We ask inspired discipleship.
For Christians of every land,
We ask new unity in your name.
For Jews and Muslims and people of other faiths,
We ask your divine revelation and blessing.
For those who cannot believe,
We ask your faithful love.
For presidents, governors and rulers in every land,
We ask your guidance.
For people who suffer and sorrow,
We ask your healing peace.

[Silence.]
Holy God, your Word, Jesus Christ, spoke peace to a sinful world and brought humanity the gift of reconciliation by the suffering and death He endured. Teach those who bear His name to follow the example He gave us. May our faith, hope, and charity turn hatred to love, conflict to peace, and death to eternal life; through Christ our Lord. Amen

*HYMN O Christ, the Great Foundation   Hymn # 443

*CHARGE AND BLESSING

*HYMN # 81   Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days

Lord, who throughout these forty days For us didst fast and pray,
Teach us with Thee to mourn our sins, And close by Thee to stay.

*POSTLUDE    Allegro   Scarletti

*All who are able may stand.
