PRELUDE  Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone      Wells

CALL TO WORSHIP   Psalm 139:23,24
  Search me, O God, and know my heart;
try me and know my thoughts!
See if there is any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN # 84    In the Cross of Christ I Glory

*A TIME OF SILENT CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN – O God, we confess that we forget who we are. We forget we are a people formed from the dust of the earth, formed for your own purposes. We don’t listen for your still, small voice. We walk with our heads down and miss the signs of your gracious presence all along our pathway. But we know, O God, that you are the God of hope who does not forget your covenant with us, a Shepherd-God who looks for lost sheep, a faithful God who keeps calling us in spite of our deafness, the God who enters our history and opens our eyes and heals our blindness. O God, accept us as your stewards and send us out in the hope of your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Everyone who is in Christ has become a new creation. The old is gone and the new has come. God, through Jesus Christ, has reconciled the world and gives us the ministry of reconciliation. Friends, believe the Good News that comes from God:

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn # 579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

PASSING OF THE PEACE
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all
    And also with you.

JOIN US FOR THE CHURCH HIKE TODAY!. Meet at Bethel at 2:00 to go to Morgan County to the home of Karen & Jim Schall for a hike on the ridge behind their house. They will provide a cookout afterwards!

Here are the directions to Schall's mountain hideaway:

From Bethel, turn left and then left again onto Hwy 70 at the light (Rite Aid). Go 2.6 miles to the light at Pine Ridge Rd. (opposite Patterson's). Turn right onto Pine Ridge and go 2.2 miles until it Tees into Hwy. 27 (at the old Food Lion store). Turn right onto Hwy. 27, go through downtown Harriman and out of town for 6.6 miles. (When Rt. 61 and 27 split, be sure to stay on 27, to your left.) After you pass the Morgan County line marker, take the first right turn, onto Coal Hill Road (prominent sign for Williams Chapel Baptist Church in the fork). Go about a half mile to the first road on your left. There's no street sign, but there is another Williams Chapel sign. Turn left.

Schall's driveway is the first gravel drive on the left after you cross a little bridge -- there's a "private drive" sign. Pull in there and wait for directions on negotiating the driveway. It's a killer! (Note: front-wheel drive and 4WD vehicles can get up without much trouble -- put it in low and take it slow. Rear wheel drives and faint hearts should carpool!) Questions? call 423-369-2955.
