TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

GREETINGS, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Great is the mystery of faith:

Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

The Lord is our strength and our song and has become our salvation.

Exultation and victory resound among God’s people.

The right hand of the Lord has triumphed! The right hand of the Lord is exalted!

We shall not die, but live, and declare God’s mighty deeds.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #122   Thine Is the Glory   Judas Maccabeus

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

God of power and might, We stand before the empty tomb with awe, pondering a love that is stronger even than death. Can that love save us? Can it forgive our sins and heal our hearts? Can it really be so? It’s a day of new beginnings, so we pray that, by your Spirit, we might start afresh. We pray in the name of Jesus, who is raised from the dead, defeating sin, once and for all, for all and even for us. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

Thanks be to God,

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

FIRST LESSON   Isaiah 65:17-25

MOMENT WITH THE CHILDREN   Rev. Patricia N. Harvey

ANTHEM   For In Thy Name, Alleluia   Chancel Choir

SECOND LESSON   Luke 24:1-12

SERMON   This Is the Day   Rev. Bill Shenk

*HYMN #118   The Day of Resurrection!   Lancashire

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

In Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not holding our sins against us. Each of us beholds on the cross the Savior who died in our place, so that we may no longer live for ourselves, but for him. In him is our only hope of salvation. We declare that Jesus is Lord. His resurrection is a decisive victory over the powers that deform and destroy human life. His lordship is hidden. The world appears to be dominated by people and systems that do not acknowledge his rule. But his lordship is real. It demands our loyalty and sets us free from the fear of all lesser lords who threaten us. We maintain that ultimate sovereignty now belongs to Jesus Christ in every sphere of life. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord. Amen.

Plan to come to the next Fun Luncheon on April 10th at noon. This month’s potluck luncheon will be hosted by Willie Mae Meers and Dolores Sandmel. Come for the door prizes, stay for the great food and fellowship! All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Church Hike

It’s time for Bethel’s hiking crew to return to the Smokies on the afternoon of Sunday, April 15. Everyone is welcome. We plan to do a 5.1 mile loop trail in the Elkmont area. This is not a strenuous hike; the elevation change is zero. We will be leaving right after worship so don’t forget to bring a sack lunch and your shoes to church. We will drive part of the way and pull off at Ft. Loudon Dam to eat our lunches before driving the rest of the way to the trailhead. Bring plenty of drinks and snacks for the hike, and plan to be home for supper.

Sales Tax Holiday

If you are planning a big purchase in the near future you’ll want to wait for the Sales Tax Holiday. For 2007 only, there is an special one-time sales tax holiday, from April 27 through 29, 2007.
