TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Service For The Lord’s Day
Bethel Presbyterian Church
Second Sunday in Easter
April 15, 2007
11:00 a.m.

GREETINGS, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP   Based on Ruth 3-4

Leader: When we stumble and our faith falters, God’s faithfulness bears us along.

People: When our spirits soar and our faith grows strong, God’s faithfulness lifts us to new heights of faithfulness.

Leader: When our daily duties distract us and our vision grows fuzzy, God’s faithfulness pierces the fog to beacon us.

All: God’s faithfulness endures forever! We lift our hearts in praise to the one who is our God this day and forever more! Let us worship God together!

OPENING PRAYER

We lift our hearts to You, our Maker, like spring flowers to the sun. We will drink Your living water until we are filled with the Spirit. We will reach out to You and bask in Your loving presence. Amen.

*HYMN OF PRAISE   Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty   Hymn #482

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader: In Jesus Christ, God broke barriers of sin and pain which separates us from our neighbor, ourselves, and our God. We seek God’s grace so we might move from alienation to new life.

People: O God, grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we deny Your presence in our busy days-

People: O God, grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we feel justified in our anger and resentment toward others-

People: O God, grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we judge others before looking at ourselves-

People: O God, grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we occupy ourselves in worldly matters and reject Your peace and assurance-

People: O God grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we refuse to follow Your will because we are fearful and untrusting-

People: O God grant us new life in You.

Leader: When we seek the security of false gods and turn our faces from Your Light-

People: O God, grant us new life in You . . . (Silent and personal confession)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: There is no greater joy in the heart of God than this moment now! For in this moment, we call upon God to grant us new life in the center of our wounded hearts. It is with great joy that God grants us new life and forgiveness of our sin!

People: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven by grace! With great joy we are made alive! Thanks be to God!

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

All: And also with you.

Spring Clean Up

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 21 for Spring Clean-up Day at Bethel. This spring we will be paying particular attention to cleaning out spaces in preparation for renovations to come. Also, we need to make the grounds reflect the loving, caring church that we are – shed the mantle of winter and make ready for the blooms and re-birth of spring and summer. There is something for everyone. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until we’re tired.
