TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

THE SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY
Third Sunday of Easter
April 25, 2004

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Worship the Lord with gladness.
And enter the Lord’s presence with songs of joy.

PRELUDE     Still Are the Waters  Parks

CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 95

Come, let us sing to the Lord; Let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before God’s presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to the Lord with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great Sovereign above all gods.
The Lord holds the caverns of the earth, and sustains the heights of the hills.
The sea belongs to God, who made it, whose hands have molded the dry lands.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee before the Lord our Maker. Let us worship God.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN # 473  For the Beauty of the Earth   Dix

*A TIME OF SILENT CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Almighty and merciful God, in every generation You reveal Yourself as a holy God, a God of love and compassion. We thank You for the gift of life and for the sense of purpose You give us. We thank You for new beginnings–for fresh starts and renewed hope. Forgive us when we act like ungrateful children–squandering Your gifts and taking You for granted. Forgive us when we walk away from neighbors in need, or close our eyes to those You long to reach through us. Create in us new hearts, Loving Father, that we may truly glorify and enjoy You forever; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The past is finished and gone; a new life has begun. Friends, believe this good news:

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – From “The Confession of 1967"

We believe that God has created the world of space and time to be the sphere of his dealings with humankind. In its beauty and vastness, sublimity and awfulness, order and disorder, the world reflects to the eye of faith the majesty and mystery of its Creator. We believe that God has created us for personal relationship in which we may respond to the love of the Creator. Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage. Amen.
