Sunday Morning Worship Service
May 7, 2006
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP
The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
Even when I walk through death’s shadow, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow us forever.
We dwell now and always in the house of the Lord!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
*HYMN #150 Come, Christians, Join to Sing Madrid
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN
O Lord, our shepherd, your care is our joy and our hope. How then have we gone so far astray? We balk at your guidance and refuse your sure provision. We turn aside from you to seek our own paths. We fail to be content with your love, so we seek more from the world, and come up empty. In your mercy, God, forgive us. Cure our fevered souls with your Spirit. Lead us anew in ways that will strengthen us, to make our lives a glory to your name through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
*DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. May the God of mercy, who forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.
Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Amen.
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn #578
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
*PASSING OF THE PEACE
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Below is an excerpt from the journal of Grace School in Kenya, which is on-line at www.graceministries-limuru.org/journal.html. Bethel provides financial and other assistance to the school. Samuel, the school’s administrator, has recently taken on two additional assignments as both pastor of the local Presbyterian church and as an uncompensated field worker for the PCUSA. He discusses some of the specifics of those tasks in this entry. Contact Joe Coen or any member of the Mission Outreach Committee for more information about Grace School.

Week Ending Sat. 29th April 2006:
The two weeks remedial teaching ended yesterday Friday 28th. Next week will be a break for the whole School. This is the week that we had planned to put up the walls of the three classrooms. The cost of the doing this is $4500. A friend has given $1000 and we shall by faith begin the building trusting the Lord for the balance.
I spent Monday- Wednesday at the Church. We worked with two helpers from Grace School and the Church Care taker to repair the floor of our sanctuary, which had become debilitated, renovating the toilets and doing general compound cleanings. This does not mean that my predecessor did not work, but I think is a matter of priorities, taste and emphasis. There is a lot of internal stuff to deal with before we can have the audacity to invite those outside. I thank God for he has put up a Committee of wonderful, committed and supportive people that I will be working with. You will be hearing and seeing the photographs of these God fearing brothers and sisters in the future.
I was able to put together the Grace Newsletter for the period Jan-April 2006 and sent it to our prayer friends on Friday 28th April. You can read a copy of this letter by going to the home page and clicking the icon Newsletter.
The Committee on Self development of people (SDOP) a department of PCUSA has requested me to do some work for them here in Kenya. There are projects that the Committee intends to fund and they need on ground information before they can make the final critical decision. They have therefore requested me to do the sight visits, meet with the project leadership and if possible the whole group involved in the project. I will report back to the SDOP head office in Kentucky with my evaluation and suggestion. This work involves a lot of traveling. I will be using public transport (The Lord has not yet provided us with a car), which is highly unreliable not to mention our roads where vehicles are driven as if they will become airborne in the next second. Might this fear have an implication as to why I do not own a car? I DO NOT KNOW!!
The Lord bless you and have a pleasant week.
Samuel.
