Sunday Morning Worship Service
May 15, 2005
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

Pentecost
May 15, 2005
GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
O praise the Lord with me,
Let us exalt God's name together.
PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: When the Day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Leader: (Acts 2:4 will be spoken in different languages)
All: All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
*HYMN #319 Spirit
*CALL TO CONFESSION
Jesus said, Come to me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy. And my burden is light.
(Silent Prayer)
*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN
O God of life and breath, your Spirit calls to us. But often we are reluctant to act. The wind of the Spirit blows and draws us ahead. Yet we want to hang on to what is familiar and safe. Give us courage to yield ourselves to your Spirit. For you are sovereign and at work in the world. Help us let go of that which does not nurture us. For you are the source of life. Remind us that as we struggle in our failures and disappointments we struggle in the palm of your hand. Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
There is no place so far away that the love of God cannot touch. There is no emptiness so great that the grace of God cannot fill. Gods arms remain open to us always, ready to embrace us in the wildness of mercy and welcome us home. In the name of Christ who makes all things new.
Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn #579
PASSING THE PEACE
Because we know Gods grace through Jesus Christ, we know Gods peace. As a sign of that peace, let us share it with one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
And also with you.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for Gods new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus!
