TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

BETHEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
YOUTH SUNDAY
MAY 23, 2004
SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Who We Are and What We Do

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

ENERGIZER   The Flood

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Dear God, we confess that we have hurt other people’s feelings and done things that are displeasing to you. We have followed after shallow ideas instead of what you want; we have spoken words in anger and practiced jealousy and hatred; we have not shared with others who are in need. Forgive us when we conform to society, and help us to be more like the way you made us to be. Grant us your compassion and peace that surpasses all understanding. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

The Spirit helps us to acknowledge and confess our sin, but also affirms within us the truth of God’s grace. In Christ Jesus, we are assured that our sins are forgiven. And by the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us, we are continually being transformed into faithful and mature disciples of Jesus. Thanks be to God, for

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   Here I Am, Lord    Hymn # 525

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in deepest sin my hand will save.
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

We believe that God loves us in every way and forgives us when we do wrong. We believe that God made heaven and earth, and that God always listens to us and helps us through difficult times. We believe that God hears our prayers. We believe that God loves and listens to all people regardless of race, gender, or religious preference. We believe that life is beautiful and that it should be lived with courage, love, and hope. Amen.
