TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

THE SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many are one body, so it is with Christ.

All: For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.

One: We are men and women.

Females: We are one body.

One: We are from around the corner and across the city.

Males: We are one body.

One: We are rich and poor.

Females: We are one body.

One: We are visitors and members of this church.

Males: We are one body.

One: And we all drink of the one Spirit, which is Christ.

All: Let us worship our loving God!

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN # 128   On Pentecost They Gathered   Munich

*A TIME OF SILENT CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Spirit of the God, Giver of Life, You breathe your newness into us, on all that is torn and tattered. You make life spring even from our hidden hurts, even in instances where we failed. Spirit of joy, Spirit of peace, too often we do not claim your power out of fear of what will happen. Forgive us when we forget you, forget each other, and even try to forget who we are in you. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Friends, know the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace. Thanks be to God, for:

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the church... In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
