THE SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY
Seventh Sunday of Easter
June 1, 2003

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Praise the Lord. The Lord’s name be praised.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP
Call on the name of the Lord in praise; Make known God's deeds among the nations!
Sing to God with joyful songs; tell of God's wonderful deeds!
Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

HYMN # 442   The Church's One Foundation      Aurelia

*A TIME OF SILENT CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN – Holy One: you have been merciful to us even while we have lacked mercy for others. You have offered us pardon while we demand penalty. You have accepted all, while we neglect most. You have shown us what is good while we have been unkind, unjust, and proud. We ask for your forgiveness, grace, and love. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON – We believe – body and soul, in life and in death – not in ourselves, but to our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all our sins and has completely freed us from the domination of evil. By the Holy Spirit, Christ assures us of eternal life, and makes us wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri          Hymn # 579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
           And also with you.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
