TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
June 12, 2005

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Worship the Lord with gladness.

And enter the Lord’s presence with songs of joy.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

O God, who gives us the morning sun and the evening star,

We have gathered to thank you.

O God, in whom we move and breathe and have our being,

We have gathered to praise you.

O God, who brings us out of spring into summer, out of death into life,

We have gathered to celebrate you!

Let us thank, praise, and celebrate Almighty God.

Alleluia! Amen!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #469   Morning Has Broken   Bunessan

*CALL TO CONFESSION

When we are in bondage, God offers to set us free. When we are poor, God in Christ identifies with us and offers us riches money cannot buy. When we are lonely and discouraged, the Holy Spirit is our Comforter, pointing us beyond ourselves. Everyone who calls on God, our Creator and Parent, for help will be saved. Let us together seek the healing only God can provide.

(Silent Prayer)

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Eternal God, forgive us for failing to go and proclaim the gospel to all your children. Like the disciples, we are afraid of being rejected; we are busy; we are scared. You know all our excuses. You call us to travel lightly yet we allow ourselves to become burdened by so much. You call us to proclaim the good news, cure the sick, offer new life to those who are lost. Forgive us our failure to be obedient to your call. Forgive us and send us on our way. In the name of the Risen Christ, Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

God hears our cries and forgives all who are penitent and believing. God provides the resources for our rescue and redemption. Whoever trusts God will not be disappointed. Whoever reaches out to others in the Spirit of Christ will know the joy of God’s love. You are forgiven. You are accepted. You are loved. Share these gifts.

Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn #579

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

LITANY OF THANKSGIVING

God needs every one of us:

Poets, potters, and painters, dancers and singers and music makers; builders and designers, typists, sellers and computer magic-makers; teachers and doctors, preachers and pray-ers, huggers and child-care givers.

Each of us has gifts to share, for we are blessed by the Spirit to dare:

A new idea, a new call, a clear vision, a word of hope, a kindness given; a persistent prayer, a call to action, faithful love and ongoing compassion; a vibrant smile, a gentle touch, a shout for justice; the movement of grace.

God needs every one of us, each with gifts to share, each with good news to bear.

We are glad that she and Jerry will continue to live in Kingston and hope to see them often.

New Members

We welcome as new members, Frank and Linda Jones, who come to us by Transfer of Letter from Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Conyers, Georgia.

Congregational Meeting

A Congregational meeting has been called for Sunday, June 19 in the sanctuary immediately following the worship service to discuss and act upon a recommendation from the Building Proposal Committee. There are Program Narratives for Bethel Presbyterian Church on the table in the Narthex that provide details of the building proposal. Members on the Active Roll of Bethel are entitled to vote. Contact our Clerk of Session, Cathy McDowell at 376-7616 if you are unsure of your membership status.

Church Supper

Plan to attend our June 15 Church Supper and help build a Bethel Prayer Tree.  In the spirit of the Western Wall of Jerusalem, we will create a place for remembrances, petitions and joys, through pictures and the written word.  Some pictures and prayers will be on the dinner table for you to place on the tree before you leave --- or you can bring your own pictures or prayers.  The covered dish meal begins at 6:30 p.m.

To Our Bethel Church Family

We want to thank each of you for helping to make our SURPRISE 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration such an extra special occasion!!!! You kept the surprise from us completely! Besides being at the party, we also want to thank you for all the lovely cards and notes, and telephone calls from those who couldn’t come. You missed out on the hugs as well as all the good food. The food is gone, but the hugs are always available. -Blessings, peace, joy and love, Bettie & Bill Shenk
