TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

A Celebration of Bethel's Mission Trip to
Mobile & Bayou la Batre, Alabama

June 18, 2006
11:00 a.m.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;

The whole earth is full of God's glory.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP – Jim Schall

Why have you gathered here?

We have responded to the gospel of God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.

What do you hope to do here?

We hope to be united with the faithful of all ages, tongues, and races in praising the God of love and power.

With what mission will you be sent from this place?

To be God’s servants in serving humanity, to spread the gospel, and to resist the powers of evil. Let us then draw near to God, who promises to forgive us, to fill us with courage, and to be present with us in this world and in the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #367   Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love   Chereponi

*CALL TO CONFESSION

Let us be mindful that, despite our best efforts and our many good excuses, we have failed to love our neighbor as completely as Christ desires. Let us confess our sins together.

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

We gather today to confess our failure to be the people God has created us to be. O God, we are a wayward people. Too often we hear your call only to ignore it. We take perverse pleasure in destroying what you have created. We seek our selfish interests, personal pleasures, and short-term gains. We become enslaved by our desire for security. Forgive our lack of vision. Take away our stubbornness and our greed. Lead us in your ways, we pray, for your sake. Amen.

*WORDS OF ASSURANCE

God says to us: You are my chosen ones. I love you! I am proud of you! Stand firm in your renewed commitment. Know that God has forgiven us; God has called us by name; we are God's children. We have entered into covenant with God and will dare to live the life to which God has called us! Hear this Good News... In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   (Sing Three Times) Sanctuary

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true;
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for You.

*PASSING THE PEACE

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – We Are All One in Mission   Matt Hines

We are all one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all. A single, great commission compels us from above to plan and work together that all may know Christ’s love. We all are called for service to witness in God’s name; our ministries are different, our purpose is the same: To touch the lives of others by God’s surprising grace so every folk and nation may feel God’s warm embrace. Now let us be united and let our song be heard. Now let us be a vessel for God’s redeeming word. We all are one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all.

SHARING OF PRAYER CONCERNS

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD’S PRAYER   Rev. Dick Hettrick, D.Min.

DEDICATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

*DOXOLOGY  Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow   Hymn #592

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION   Carolyn McNew

*HYMN   It Only Takes a Spark   Kurt Kaiser

It only takes a spark to get a fire going,
and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.
That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it;
You spread His love to everyone; you want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time is spring when all the trees are budding,
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming,
That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it;
You want to sing, it’s fresh like spring, you want to pass it on.

I wish for you, my friend, this happiness that I’ve found,
You can depend on Him, it matters not where you’re bound.
I’ll shout it from the mountain top – I want my world to know;
The Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.

*CHARGE AND BLESSING

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!

*POSTLUDE

 *All who are able may stand.
