TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Service For The Lord’s Day
Bethel Presbyterian Church
Seventh Sunday after Pentecost
July 15, 2007
11:00 a.m.

The Prelude

The Lord is in His holy temple,
The Lord is in His holy temple;
Let all the earth keep silence,
Let all the earth keep silence before Him,
Keep silence, Keep silence before Him. Amen.

The Gathering and Greeting of God’s People

Call to Worship

Leader: Christ has blessed us with every spiritual gift.

All: Blessed be the Lord!

Leader: Christ has adopted us as God’s own children.

All: Blessed be the Lord!

Leader: Christ has sealed us into God’s salvation through the power of the Holy Spirit.

All: Blessed be the Lord!

Leader: Christ has offered us an eternal inheritance in God’s redemptive love.

All: Blessed be the Lord!

Hymn of Praise   Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee   Hymn #464

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we worship You with our lips but fail to see You in the lives of our fellow creatures. We feel secure in our bounty, while neglecting those in want. We are proud of our accomplishments, and too easily blame those in need for their lack of success in life. Transform our hearts to see You anew: in those who are hungry and thirsty, in those who are strangers to us, in those who lack clothing, and in those who are sick or imprisoned. We ask this in the name of your Son, who teaches us to treat each other as beloved sisters and brothers. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us,
Christ, have mercy upon us,
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Words of Assurance (From Ephesians 1)

God, who raised Christ from the dead, has chosen us for adoption. As God’s adopted children, we have an inheritance of God’s salvation and the promise of eternal life.

Congregational Response

Leader: Thanks be to God.

All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Notes from the Worship Committee

The Worship Committee would like to thank everyone who has signed-up to usher, provide flowers, and provide special music this year.  We also want to remind everyone that there are sign-up sheets in the back of the sanctuary for more volunteers.  Please sign-up!

If you are interested in providing Special Music, please coordinate your selection with the Pastor no later than the Wednesday preceding the service.  The Pastor will identify the most appropriate place for your selection in the order of worship.  Thank you for sharing your gift of music this summer while the choir takes a break!

If you are interested in a unique way to provide decoration for the sanctuary, but would rather put your dollars into mission/ministry initiatives, please consider placing a single flower on the pulpit and making a designated gift to your chosen initiative.  Just let the Church Office know no later than the Wednesday preceding the service what you'd like the bulletin to say.

Yoga

There will be a Yoga class in the Fellowship Hall every Tuesday evening during the months of July and August from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Please contact Dianne Griffith at 376-7507 if you have questions.

Finger Foods Needed

Finger food dessert is needed for our Annual Church Picnic which is scheduled for Sunday, August 5. If you would like to provide a finger food dessert such as cookies, brownies, etc., please indicate below and drop this form in the offering plate or leave in the church office. Thank you very much. (Carolyn, we consider your banana pudding "finger food.")
