Sunday Morning Worship Service
July 30, 2006
TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.
Bethel Presbyterian Church
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
July 30, 2006
11:00 a.m.
GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of God's glory.
PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP
In the beginning before time, before people, before the world began,
God was.
Here and now among us, beside us enlisting the people of the earth for the purposes of heaven,
God is.
In the future, when we have turned to dust and all we know has found its fulfillment,
God will be.
Not denying the world, but delighting in it, not condemning the world, but redeeming it, through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit,
God was, God is, God will be.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
*HYMN #467 How Great Thou Art O Store Gud
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN
God our purifier, acknowledging our sinful ways we confess how narrow is our vision of your world. We have looked at our health and seen our illness instead of your wholeness. We have looked at our resources and seen their scarcity instead of your abundance. We have looked at our crises and see threats to us instead of opportunities for you. We have looked at our neighbors in need and seen only their demands upon us instead of the face or your love in each one. You alone can change our hearts, O God. Forgive us, we pray, through Jesus Christ. By your Spirit help us to live righteously, obedient to your gracious rule and grateful for your saving love. Amen.
*WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.
Thanks be to God. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn #578
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

ANTHEM One Thing I Know Brushy Mountain Fellowship Band (recorded)

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON John 6:1-21
SERMON More Than Enough Rev. Marc Sherrod, ThD
*HYMN #281 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM Rhondda
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from A Brief Statement of Faith
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. Amen.
SHARING OF PRAYER CONCERNS
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD’S PRAYER
DEDICATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS
*DOXOLOGY Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Hymn #592
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*PRAYER OF DEDICATION
*HYMN #403 What a Friend We Have in Jesus Converse
*CHARGE AND BLESSING
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Let There Be Peace on Earth
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!
*POSTLUDE
*All who are able may stand.

To my bethel family, As you know, I have spent most of the summer either in the hospital or at home recuperating from the previous hospitalizations and during those times you have overwhelmed me with your loving concern! There is no way that I can say THANK YOU adequately. Your cards, notes and phone calls have brightened each day, as have the food, flowers, and offers to help Bill by sitting with me, running errands, and even cleaning the house, doing the laundry or feeding LU, our cat! But what has meant the most have been the many prayers offered in my name. I will still need your prayers as I continue to regain my strength, and I know that they will surround me each day. May God bless and be with each of you. Peace, Joy and MUCH love, Bettie Shenk.
This Wednesday's study will focus on the Gospel of Peter. Materials that reflect the class study are available in the church office for your review prior to our study time on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
