TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Service For The Lord’s Day
Bethel Presbyterian Church
Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost
September 18, 2005

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Worship the Lord with gladness.

And enter the Lord’s presence with songs of joy.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Seek God and God’s strength.

God is our protector and provider. God gives light in the darkness.

God gives water to the thirsty and food to the hungry.

Let God’s people sing out with joy. Let us worship God.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #281   Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah   CWM Rhondda

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Creator God, you breathed the breath of life into every one of your children. You know our every need and care for us faithfully. Yet, we fail to follow your call and your guidance. We lack courage to care for all people, those who differ from us, those who demand too much, those who take up our time with petty concerns. We are impatient with one another and carelessly harm each other with quick and hurtful words. Have mercy upon us for resisting new insights you offer and new challenges you give to us. Enlarge our world to include all our children. In the name of Christ who lived and loved fully. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Hear the good news! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin, and alive to all that is good.

Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

ANTHEM   Shout to the Lord   Darlene Zschech

SCRIPTURE READINGS   I Corinthians 12:14:27

SERMON   Deep In Christ’s Bones   Rev. Marc Sherrod, ThD

*DOXOLOGY Hymn #592

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*HYMN #322   Spirit of the Living God   Living God

*CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   God Be with You Till We Meet Again    Hymn #540

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

OPENING PRAYER

Eternal God, you called us to be a special people, to preach the gospel and show mercy. Keep your Spirit with us as we meet together, so that in everything we may do your will. Guide us lest we stumble or be misguided by our own desires. May all we do be done for the reconciling of the world, for the upbuilding of the church, and for the greater glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*All who are able may stand.
