TO OUR GUESTS, we extend a warm welcome. We invite you to participate in signing our Friendship Folder, adding your address and phone number if you'd like to receive our church newsletter or a pastoral call. When we pray the Lord's Prayer at Bethel, we say "sins...sin against us" rather than "debts..." or "trespasses..."; during "a time for sharing" we welcome prayer requests from the congregation. On first Sundays each month, all who put their trust in Christ and who have received baptism in any Christian church are invited to share his sacred meal. We are glad you are with us. Please come again.

The Service For The Lord’s Day
Bethel Presbyterian Church
All Saints Sunday
November 5, 2006
11:00 a.m.

GREETING, WORDS OF WELCOME, RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

This is the day the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Who can ascend the hill of the Lord? Who shall stand in God’s holy place?

Those with clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.

They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation.

Such is the company of those who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #138   Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!   Nicaea

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*UNISON CONFESSION OF SIN

Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle. You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope, and love, we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Chris. Amen.

*WORDS OF ASSURANCE

Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.

Thanks be to God. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   Gloria Patri   Hymn #578

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

MINUTE FOR MISSION   Ken Dungan

FIRST LESSON   Isaiah 25:6-9

ANTHEM

SECOND LESSON   Revelations 21:1-6a

SERMON   Tomorrow   Rev. Bill Shenk

DEDICATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

*DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION   Hymn #592

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We declare that Jesus is Lord.

His resurrection is a decisive victory over the powers that deform and destroy human life.

His lordship is hidden.

The world appears to be dominated by people and systems that do not acknowledge his rule.

But his lordship is real.

It demands our loyalty and sets us free from the fear of all lesser lords who threaten us.

We maintain that ultimate sovereignty now belongs to Jesus Christ in every sphere of life.

Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord. Amen.

*HYMN #442   The Church’s One Foundation   Aurelia

GREAT THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Let us pray.

COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

*HYMN #526   For All the Saints   Sine Nomine

*CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!

WEEK ENDING 7TH OCTOBER 2006:

The week weather was good. We are moving to what we call warm and wet season, but it is not near the temperatures of your summer. The Sun is rising early and this has made it possible for nearly all the teachers and pupils to be in class by 7 a.m.

There is a growing anxiety among the children as the date of the tour nears. This is because there is no assurance of the trip taking place due to School’s financial status. Jane made a financial appeal to friends and supporting partners and we are optimistic that we shall get response before the due date.

The School had painful issues to talk and pray about. On Monday while I was splitting wood at our house, the panga slid and caught my left foot toe. I went to the hospital and it was fixed with three stitches. I have been rare at School and whenever I come, I come limping using a cane. Children have never seen this on any member of staff and a few with guts came asking me if the toe was completely cut and if I have only four toes on my left foot. They are very sympathetic and concerned. The stitches will be removed Monday and possibly there will be no more cane.

Another prayer item that has dominated Grace School is the illness of Rev. Marc Sherrod the Pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingston. Bethel Church has a very close connection with Grace School. The children of Grace have been communicating through letters with children of Bethel Church and even some teachers have friends they communicate with. It was therefore very sad to all Grace Family to hear what Marc is going through. We pray that the Lord will be gracious to him and restore his health. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marc’s family and the entire Bethel Church.

The Lord be gracious to all of you.

Samuel
