Deb Hyder,
Parish Nurse

“As a nurse I never had time to listen, and I was constrained from sharing my faith. As a Parish Nurse, I can affirm that God is the healer, and that we in the health profession are in his service. It’s always a blessing when faith and work intersect, and I enjoy that blessing every day.”Debbie Hyder, Parish Nurse

Deb Hyder began her fifth year as Parish Nurse on Easter Sunday, April 20th, 2004. She has been a registered nurse for 21 years, and previously worked in the hospital setting in ICU/CCU, in surgery, on the med/surgery floor and in the step-down unit. In addition, she worked as a home visiting nurse. Deb graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and later from nursing school at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee.

Deb says, “Now I have time to listen and react to my parishioners’ needs. I can integrate my background and knowledge with the faith, health and well being of the congregation.”

Deb has been married for 21 years to Dan Hyder. They have two children, Bram, age 18, and Kerry, age 13. In September, Bram enters Roane State Community College. Kerry starts eighth grade at Midway Middle School. Kerry plays the clarinet in Midway’s band. Dan directs the environmental technology program at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee.

As a resident of Roane County, Deb is also personally involved with many community groups such as the Roane Health Council, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the American Red Cross. Deb also serves as the secretary for the Health Council.

As Bethel’s Parish Nurse, Deb is deeply involved with parish concerns. This fall, Deb will be presenting a nutrition, health, weightloss and exercise program for Bethel and the community. She partners with the Roane County Health Department, Nancy King, Physical Therapist, and area resources.
